Best Vegetarian/Vegan brunch places in Berlin- kids friendly too!

If, like me, you’ve made that classic new year resolution of eating healthier and are planning a trip to Berlin, this is a post for you. I am sharing some cool, off the beaten track, vegetarian restaurants. Children are welcomed too!

Berlin îs our second home. Husband was born and studied there. We have family and friends that we visit regularly. We enjoy spending time in this fabulous city. There is so much to do, both for families and solo travelers. I already posted some tips on Charlottenburg and the Zoo area here, if you want to have a look.

This post is about food. In particular vegetarian and vegan brunch places where you can start the day full of energy. In Berlin, there is so much more choice for vegetarians compared to other European capitals. They have adopted the trend faster and we really like what we see (and taste). So here they are, our favorite vegetarian/vegan cafes for brunch and, as a bonus, the best place for vegan pizza in Berlin. It was so good I finished it before even thinking of taking a photo of it.

1. Meyan (Goltzstraße 36, 10781 Berlin, Schoneberg) : we had breakfast/brunch twice in this cafe in Schoenberg and we plan to go back soon. For us, it’s one of the best Turkish restaurants in Berlin. There is a glass case showcasing tens of different spreads and vegetable sides as you enter. Many options for vegetarians and vegans, including walnut spread, dates and chilli dips and zucchini puffers. They have gluten free bread and great coffee too. Portions do tend to be on the small side but this just means you get to try different things. Children high chairs are available.

2. Knofi (Bergmannstr. 11, 10961 Berlin, Kreuzberg) : cool and quirky restaurant that does both brunch and dinner. It offers fresh Turkish food with some emphasis on vegetarian options. Small portions which you can choose from a showcase. There is a very tasty vegan option for brunch too. Their homemade lemonade was great. It is a popular place so think about booking a table. When we visited. you could only pay in cash so bring some with you. We found the prices to be very affordable for the ‘coolest’ neighborhood of Berlin.

3. Ghe Veg (Birkenstraße 30, 10551 Berlin, Mitte): a sweet vegan cafe that offers a great breakfast plate. Croissant, spreads, fruits, quinoa pudding and melt in your mouth avocado toast are on offer. Lovely ginger teas and infusion perfectly accompany the flavors of the food. My LO was absolutely in love with a few of their home made jams. The food quickly disappeared from the plates and we had to top up the order with some more avocado toast. They have bagel sandwiches perfect for the family on the go or to have a picnic after you sightseeing tour of Mitte. I did not notice any high chairs when we visited so better call them and ask if available if your child cannot use a normal chair yet.

4. Cafe Tante Nanni (Sprengelstraße 40, 13353 Berlin, Mitte): the new kid on the block. This place is mostly a secret and only visited by people in the neighbourhood. It was recommended by a friend living on the same street and we were super enthusiastic about the cakes on offer. It sells only gluten free cakes with some vegetarian options baked with love by the owner. It is a small cafe so you might have to leave the stroller outside but the cakes are so good, it’s worth it. They also have a daily changing lunch formula. Finally, the prices are very affordable so there is no reason not to stop by.

Last but not least, our favorite vegan pizza restaurant:

5. La Stella Nerra (Leykestraße 18, 12053 Berlin, Neukolln): don’t’ the put off by the location ( in front of a cemetery), this place is almost an institution for Berlin vegans. Far away from the tourist trail, it is mostly visited by locals and ‘connoisseurs’. The restaurant is very basic with only a few wooden tables scattered around. But the pizza, it is the perfect combination between a fluffy dough and a punchy burst of flavours. I actually only found out after I finished my pizza that the mozzarella was vegan. It tasted too damn good! Perfect occasion to trick the kids into eating some veggies (we all know how well that is going!). With pizza margarita starting at 6,5 Euro is also an amazing value for money. Try to avoid Saturday evening when the restaurant is at the most busy and definitely book in advance.

Have you tried any of the places we recommended above? Do you know other places that we could try on our next Berlin trip? Leave us a word below.

Happy travels!
