A tip for a rainy day in Brussels – a visit to the Comics Art Center

We did not count upon many rainy days at the end of May but here we are again. The Belgian weather is always full of surprises that…. involve strong winds and constant rain, so not the good kind. Here we are again scrambling for indoor activities to keep the kiddo entertained. He recently got into comics so we decided to investigate more into one of his favourite blue, fun-loving characters. Here is what we found out!

Antwerp has lots of cool activites to offer to families, including a city zoo, a large playground in the City park and lots of chocolate. The most recent attraction is dedicated to the most famous Belgian export, aside from beer and comics: dark chocolate.

Top 5 museums to visit with children in Brussels

During this last year we we had plenty of time to explore Belgium’s indoor and outdoor attractions. We decided to revisit some of our favorite museums and share our impressions with other desperate parents looking for a reason to leave the house while the phone is uncooperatively showing a rainy weather forecast, which almost never happens in Belgium (the rain, not the uncooperation)…..is what I would like to say, but I would be lying.

7 trips to do with kids in and around Dinant, Belgium

With the international travel being restricted due to Covid, we attempted to put our wanderlust at ease by scouting great kid-friendly holiday places in Belgium. One such place is Dinant and the area towards the French border. It is part of the Ardennes, the closest thing that Belgium has to a mountain range. We have been in the Ardennes previously in a Center Parks resort (you can read all about it here) and it is a lovely area for nature walks, no matter the season.

Being a rather small country, many of the activities we did in our short Ardennes break can also be done as day trips from Brussels. Of course, if you choose to stay in the Ardennes, all activities become very accessible and can be combined for an action packed day. It is also a good base to venture into North France and continue exploring the Ardennes region.

A short escape in Ghent, Belgium – a stubborn city and an open air museum

Ghent is a short, one hour drive from Brussels and has plenty to keep you and the kids engagged for a day or a week- end.  Its pedestrian city center is the largest in Belgium which means more freedom to run around for the little ones. You’ll have to watch out for the tram though, it can be pretty silent.

A Sunday with wild animals and cava in Antwerp, Belgium

As we are based in Brussels, Antwerp is often our ‘go to’ short getaway. I like how compact and cosy the city center is. You can reach the Central Market in about 20 min walk from the train station. There are  nice restaurants and a great coffee culture. Even if the weather is less great (what we call the Belgian microclimate ) there are great places to spend a few hours indoors as well.
