A tip for a rainy day in Brussels – a visit to the Comics Art Center

We did not count upon many rainy days at the end of May but here we are again. The Belgian weather is always full of surprises that…. involve strong winds and constant rain, so not the good kind. Here we are again scrambling for indoor activities to keep the kiddo entertained. He recently got into comics so we decided to investigate more into one of his favourite blue, fun-loving characters. Here is what we found out!

A long week-end in Saint-Petersburg – a sightseeing itinerary for families and a few delicious Russian restaurants

We took this trip in June 2019 but, with all the travelling during Summer and the birth of our daughter in September, I kept postponing writing about it. Although not one of the easiest destinations, mainly due to the visa restrictions, I was pleasantly surprised how accessible and even reasonably priced it is once you pass the airport immigration booth.

We bought the flights about 7 months before the travel date. The only thing that was putting us off a bit was the need to get a visa. But, Continue reading “A long week-end in Saint-Petersburg – a sightseeing itinerary for families and a few delicious Russian restaurants”

What to see and where to eat in Valparaiso, Chile with a side trip to Casablanca valley

We had two days in Valparaiso and limited prior preparation on the Must-sees. We knew there was a second Neruda house recommended to us from Santiago – La Sebastiana. Also, we wanted to try fresh seafood and set out on foot to discover the whimsically painted houses that Valpo is well known for. We landed early in the morning on Saturday 3rd November and had three full days to discover the city before heading to the next destination on the coast. Our base was the lovely boutique hotel The Aubrey in Ballavista neighbourhood, nested at the foothills of Cerro San Cristobal.

A short escape in Ghent, Belgium – a stubborn city and an open air museum

Ghent is a short, one hour drive from Brussels and has plenty to keep you and the kids engagged for a day or a week- end.  Its pedestrian city center is the largest in Belgium which means more freedom to run around for the little ones. You’ll have to watch out for the tram though, it can be pretty silent.

Family Travel in South Korea – 5 Fun experiences in Seoul

We arrived in Seoul a few days ago, after a reasonably smooth but long flight from Istanbul. We had a good idea of the different options to reach the city but were rather unprepared for the post- flight exhaustion that followed a busy work week. So decided to make our life easier and splurge for a cab.

Why I always go back to Florence

First time Florence was about 10 years ago, part of my Erasmus year in Italy. Since then I went back a few times on work related business. Most recently, I was in Florence last week-end, in an escape from the Belgian summer (that is to say grey, skies and rainy mornings that make you think twice about leaving the apartment).

Of course, if you ever decide to visit or re-visit the city, Continue reading “Why I always go back to Florence”
