The end of May found us in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This was my second time in Croatia after a long weekend in Zagreb a couple of years back. However, it was the first time for the whole family in the Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik. It is a laid back part of the country and in enjoys plenty of Sunny days so make sure to add it to your holidays list. Here is what we enjoyed visiting in South Croatia.

Beijing is, as expected, absolutely huge. It has the most extensive metro system in the world and that says it all. The metro will be your best (and very affordable) friend if you want to pack the main attractions within 5-6 days of reasonably paced sightseeing.
Rotterdam is an easy drive from two European capitals (1 h from Amsterdam and 1h30 from Brussels) and a major port in Northern Europe. If you or your kid have some interest in boats or ships, this is definitely the place to go for a day of fun and adventures.

We flew via London and landed in Muscat on Saturday early morning after a 8 h overnight flight . If you do go via London Heathrow International Airport , there is a pretty cool play area for toddlers and pre- schoolers at gate A3 in Terminal 5. Check it out if you have more than a couple of hours to spare. Otherwise, keep in mind that Heathrow is huge and even transfer within the same terminal might take almost one hour.

Paris is only 1h20 min away by fast train from Brussels so we do end up there quite often. We prefer Spring or Autumn as the day is longer and there are hundreds of options for Outdoors sightseeing to choose from. By now we have done all the ‘big hits’: Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Musee du Quay Branly, Centre Pompidou, Versailles and ticked off all the landmarks (mostly in our pre-baby days). The thing about Paris is, it never gets boring.

To reach the Chilean Patagonia you can fly to Punta Arenas and, in high season, to Puerto Natales. Puerto Natales saves about 3 hours of road trip to reach the Torres del Paine National Park so might be the best solution if you only have a limited time in the area. As we travelled in November, Puerto Natales airport was not yet an option. We flew to Punta Arenas and used the pick up service offered by our hotel: Rio Serrano.

I am a terrible skier. I learned to ski at 20 something (also in France, by the way) and continue to be insecure about my abilities and afraid of picking up too much speed. Husband on the other hand is a good, confident skier that seamlessly goes from red slope to black slope to apres- ski drinks.
