Hi everyone and Happy New Year!
We have recently travelled to Mauritius, our second New Year spent on this amazing island (more about our first visit here). This time however, we were joined by our two junior explorers and had to navigate a somewhat complicated travelling landscape due to Covid. Let’s see what you can expect if considering a Mauritius holiday !
Each of us had a to do a PCR test within 72h to boarding the flight to Mauritius. There is no age limit so babies and toddlers need to have one as well. Another PCR test followed once we landed as we decided to spend the first part of the holiday in a AirBnB. If we would have been on a package holiday and going directly to a resort, the test is done upon check in and is a quick antigen rather than a PCR. Another self- test is done on day 5 on the island.
As for the insurance covering Covid, we had a copy with us but it was not verified at the border. We had however to hand over a printed copy of the all- in -one form that we filled in on the website of the Mauritius Health Authority and landing forms that we filled during the flight. It is a good idea to have a print out of your accommodation reservation and return ticket as well.
We were a bit stressed with all the requirements and the prospect of testing positive on the Island but once we stepped into the sunny weather and got to our peaceful AirBnB we were very glad that we decided to fly over. The island is beautiful in Summer and measures are in place that makes us fell very safe. Of course, we continue to take precautions and spend most of our explorations outdoors.
We made a short video about the measures Mauritius has put in place to make it safe for both locals and travellers to explore the island and enjoy a Covid-free holiday.
Have a great start in the year and thank you for reading our blogs. Let us know if you have any questions.
Safe travels!
