🇵🇹 Road trip in Alentejo, Portugal – what to do in Beja and Badoca Safari Park

After a few days in Evora, we headed deeper into Alentejo region, a part of Portugal that is relatively unknown to international tourists that flock to the Algarve. Beja is a medieval city and a great base to explore further afield. It is also very hot in Summer, with temperatures above 30 for large parts of August and even September.

We stayed in a former Franciscan convent, a unique experience in Portugal. We showcase its interior and beautifully restored exterior in the video so definitely have a look if you want a nice and affordable accommodation in Alentejo. The kids loved to run in the high ceiling corridors and kept saying we are staying in a castle :). This was when we managed to remove them from the pool, which was not too often. But I could not blame them, as we had two very hot days, with around 35 degrees Celsius, making exploring the city a bit of a challenge.

The food was one of the reasons we went to Beja. The local specialty is the Iberian pig/ porco preto. Restaurante Intimo is located a bit out of there old center but it is definitely worth the trip. They were very kind, made big efforts to help us understand the Portuguese menu and the food was great. Also, some of the biggest portions I have seen in Portugal!

After a few days of medieval city exploration we wanted to have a different experience, one that would appeal directly to the kids. Here is where Badoca Safari comes in, the Africa of Portugal . Rafting, Safari and lots of animals made the day a great success. If you are winders what to do with kids in Alentejo, Badoca Safari Park would definitely be high on the list.

What is your favorite Alentejo experience? Leave us a comment if you have visited.

Safe Travels and see you in the next post! CGK
